Timeless Modernity: Furniture Design
So many memories of my childhood were in my family’s old creole house in Mauritius. It was a time and place that shaped the way I look at furniture design and architecture over the years. As a kid, I loved to stroll in and out of the array of connecting rooms and terraces. There were the distinctive Planter’s Chairs found in the house’s airy verandas, delicately poised and finished in woven rattan and dark mahogany, in elegant contrast with the white painted walls and windows.

The Barachois Chair is designed as a modern homage to the Planter’s chair that graced the bygone traditional Mauritian homes.
Its iconic chair profile has been reinterpreted keeping its sculpted arms (wide enough to hold a cup), now finished in smoked oak bringing a warm accent to a modern contemporary interior, but still crafted and handwoven with the help of our local craftsmen.
